Experience

Key Tools

  • CAD programs such as Catia, SolidWorks, Rhino 3D, and others;
  • FEM analysis using Ansys, Nastran/Patran, Abaqus, SolidWorks, Catia, FreeCAD, and other FEM programs
  • Analytical structural analysis using spreadsheets

Development of the "PV-Shed" substructure for photovoltaic systems

Dual roof use for green spaces and PV -> high-mounted solar modules

  • Design of the complex substructure commissioned by and in cooperation with Andreas Horn / "Solardoktor"
  • Structural analysis of all relevant components throughout the design process
  • Collaboration with a structural engineer -> virtually no design iterations required thanks to our own preliminary analysis.
  • Project management and implementation support for more than 10 individual projects

Construction of Photovoltaic Systems - Project Management

Served as lead project manager for the construction of several PV systems with a total capacity of approximately 2.9 MWp, including the largest single system at 1.7 MWp (see image at the very top; image source: Green City Energy GmbH); supported the PV department by providing planning services in both organizational and technical areas

Electrification of a Vintage Vespa / Interdisciplinary Project

  • Design of the basic concept / package centered around a hub motor mounted on both sides and commercially available batteries / power electronics
  • Design for housing the power electronics in enclosures styled after the ventilation and drive components of the original Vespa / Suggestion of an exhaust system on the left side via a fairing on the double-arm swingarm.
  • Design and calculation of the double-arm swingarm, which is single-sidedly suspended due to the body structure and is therefore subject to high torsional loads.
  • Prototype approval in cooperation with TÜV based on our FEM calculations

Loremo

Development of a completely new, extremely energy-efficient passenger car concept, culminating in a working prototype that has traveled several thousand kilometers, most recently on public roads. The vehicle was built with minimal financial resources. The body and chassis - including suspension components - had to be developed entirely from scratch due to the vehicle's unusual dimensions. Despite its robustness, the extensive use of off-the-shelf parts, and the use of sheet steel for all load-bearing structural elements, the prototype weighed just 520 kg. The handling was impressive and sporty for a very first attempt.

Tower Cranes

Design of complete tower cranes using analytical methods (practically without the use of FEM tools) through to the approval of structural calculations by TÜV.

Bicycles

Bicycle designs intended exclusively for personal use and not intended for commercial sale. Virtually all of the bicycles built have been used intensively for many years and are still in use today. For more information, see the Muscle power section and muskelmotor.de.

Other Areas of Activity

  • Hydrogen technology at an OEM
    -> Component responsibility for high-pressure control valve
  • Racing / DTM - "Project management" / Logistics, component procurement, and storage
  • Transmission technology
  • Sunroofs - Special projects addressing water tightness issues
    -> Several joint patents
  • Body development for OEMs

Model gliders

Developed and built my own model gliders during my school years. Even after more than 30 years, a degree in mechanical engineering, and professional experience, the knowledge I acquired remains an essential pillar of my skills—for example, in terms of aerodynamics and structural analysis.
